Gladiators News · Brigham earns 2nd place in Long Jump; Gladiators place 8th at Lansing Catholic Relays

The Gladiator Girls Track & Field team opened up the 2018 outdoor season at the Lansing Catholic Relays on Wednesday night placing 8th overall in the team competition. Fowlerville was led by Junior Mackenzie Brigham’s 15’7” performance in the Long Jump. Brigham’s season best jump earned her a 2nd place finish. In the High Jump, Gabby Jolliff continues to improve as she jumps 4’6” and earned a 3rd place finish. The 800m Relay team of Kyla Chappell, Lauren Marquette, Brigham and Dalaija Franklin, had its best performance of the season placing 3rd overall in 1:53.82.

Other athletes contributing to scoring for the Gladiators was the 3200m Relay (6th place; 11:13) of Ollie Updike, Sophia Spalding, Emily Hutmacher and Natalie Joupperi; the Distance Medley Relay (6th place; 14:31) of Updike, Chappell, Spalding and Hutmacher and the 1600m Relay (5th place; 4:36) of Marquette, Jolliff, Courtney Rife and Chappell.

The Gold Baton Award, presented to the outstanding athlete of the meet, was awarded to Mackenzie Brigham. Brigham’s season best jump of 15’ 7” placed her second and she helped the 800m Relay to a strong performance and a 3rd place finish.

The Purple Baton Award, present to the most improved athlete of the meet, was awarded to the 800m Relay team of Lauren Marquette, Mackenzie Brigham, Dalajia Franklin and Kyla Chappell. The 800m Relay team matched its 2017 mid-season performance on its way to a 3rd place finish.

The Gladiators continue the 2018 season on Tuesday April 17th when they host Eaton Rapids in the first conference dual meet of the season!
