Girls Junior Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Fowlerville Girls Place 2nd at CAAC White Jamboree #2


The Fowlerville Girls Cross Country raced in the second of three CAAC White division Jamborees on Tuesday, October 3 in Eaton Rapids. The Gladiators strong performance placed them 2nd overall in the six team Jamboree as all five of the scoring runners crossed the line in the top 20 athletes.  Senior Ollie Updike led the Fowlerville girls moving up 2 places from the first jamboree finishing in 4th overall with a time of 19:59.  Freshman Jenna Rigotti crossed the line second for the Lady Gladiators and 8th overall with a time of 21:10.2, and on her heels was Sophomore Franny Updike crossing in 21:10.4 in 9th place. Senior Selena Lopez came up big for the girls moving up 10 places from the previous Jamboree finishing in 17th place in a time of 22:52. Freshman Emily Hutmacher’s 20th place at 23:00 rounded out the scoring for the Lady Glads. A few seconds later bringing in all seven spot in the top 22 athletes and completing the varsity squad was freshman Sara Spalding (21st place; 23:02.5) and freshman Lilly Copeland (22nd place; 23:02.7). Other key performances were sophomore Azhi Depa moving up 10 places from the last Jamboree finishing in 31st place in a time of 24:16. Junior Marla Rose (30:57) moved up 9 spots and senior Audrey Trinka (32:51) 7 spots.

The Gladiators have a much needed break as they prepare to enter the Championship Season starting at the  East Lansing JV Invitational on Thursday October 12 and the Greater Lansing Championships on Saturday October 14th in Grand Ledge.

Game Recap

The Fowlerville boys’ soccer team played another 2-1 game on Tuesday night, but ended up on the wrong end of the score against Lansing Everett. The Glads opened the scoring in the first half when Elias Kaijasilta knocked in a cross from Griffin Robertson. Everett scored with 5 minutes left in the half to knot the score at one’s. Everett scored in the first 5 minutes of the second half and, although both teams had chances, neither could find the back of the net. Alex Bowers had another solid game in net to lead the defense for the Glads, now 7-10 on the season as they host Lansing Eastern on Thursday.

On Saturday, September 30, the Fowlerville girls cross country team took advantage of the break in temperature to set thirteen personal records and four season records over the flat and fast double loop 5000m course in Stockbridge. It was a great day to be a Gladiator with both the varsity and junior varsity team topping 14 other schools to bring home the first place hardware. The varsity girls had three in the top 20 and were led by senior Ollie Updike just seconds from her season record placing 4th overall in a time of 19:31.9.  Also in the top 20 to earn individual medals were sophomore Franny Updike placing 11th with a time of 20:06.3 and freshman Jenna Rigotti placing 13th with a new personal record time of 20:23.9. Freshman Lilly Copeland came up big for the Gladiators shaving over two minutes off her previous record crossing the line in 21:02.9 in 23rd place. Freshman Sara Spalding rounded out the scoring for the girls placing 33rd with a personal record time of 21:56.8.  Also earning a personal record was freshman Emily Hutmacher completing the course in 34th place in 21:57.2.  Senior Selena Lopez rounded out the varsity team completing the course 43rd in 22:27 beating her previous season’s best time.

The junior varsity team was led by senior Josefine Lindberg who ran an exciting race finishing the course second overall with a personal best time of 22:16. Finishing the course 5th overall was sophomore Ahzi Depa with a season’s best time of 23:22. Freshman Ramsey Lukasik finished in 11th place with a new personal record time of 24:28 cutting nearly two and a half minutes off her previous best time. On the heels of Ramsey was junior Jessica Davis finishing 12th overall also earning a personal record time of 24:29.  Arianne Davis (26:57.3) rounded out the scoring for the girls finishing in 22nd place just beating out her teammate Isabelle Lindberg (23rd, 26:57.5) both earning personal records. Congratulations to Mallory Heath earning the largest PR on the day cutting nearly 7 minutes off her time to complete the course in 31:56. Also earning season or personal records at the Stockbridge Invite were: Abby Davis (27:54 PR), Abby Fear (28:13 PR), Audrey Trinka (30:35 SR), Marla Rose 29:51 SR), and Natalya Arbanas (29:29 PR).

Game Recap

The Gladiators are finally starting to come together and are playing strong soccer at this point of the season. Finishing a strong week with a victory at Ionia, a tie at St. Johns the Gladiators finished the week with a victory at Eaton Rapids. The game started again with the Gladiators holding most of the possession but the intensity was a little flat. After finally stringing together some passes the ball got put into the box and Nick Atkinson put home the games first goal. Eaton Rapids came right back and got a goal to tie the game heading into halftime. The intensity picked up in the second half and the Glads starting playing beautiful soccer moving the ball around the field from player to player. Ethan Adams was a recipient of this play and got the ball in a one on one situation and put away the winning goal. The Gladiators next game is awaiting the draw of the CAAC Cup.

Game Recap

The Fowlerville boys’ soccer team won a another hard fought 2-1 contest last night, this time over Eaton Rapids. Although the Glads possessed the majority of the first half, they could not finish and were tied 0-0. That changed when Grant Hibbard took a deflection off of a defender and put it in the back of the net. After a PK gave Eaton Rapids the equalizer, Elias Kaijasilta stole the ball from a defender and scored the game winning goal. Alex Bowers led another solid effort by the entire defense with 8 saves in net. The Glads finished second in the CAAC White with a 4-1 record and are 7-9 overall as the CAAC Cup approaches.

Game Recap

The Gladiators traveled to St. Johns in hopes of changing the outcome from the previous meeting. In the first half both teams battled to 1-1 draw. Scoring for the Gladiators was Nick Atkinson. In the second half the Gladiators came out from the whistle strong controlling the pace of the game and scoring 3 goals from Jake Henry, Nick Atkinson, and Dylan LeMieux. With 10 minutes left in the game the Gladiators got out of sorts in their shape and the Redwings capitalized scoring 3 late goals. It was a very entertaining game in the end and both teams walked away with a 4-4 tie. The Gladiators next game is at Eaton Rapids.

Game Recap

The Fowlerville Varsity Volleyball team hosted a game against Portland on September 26th and won in three games 25-16, 26-24, 25-18. For the night, Hayley Szumlinski dominated at the net and led in kills with 13, Leah Ash followed with 10 kills and 2 blocks, while Autumn Barbour added 6 kills and Jackie Jarvis had 8 points and 10 digs. Setting for the Glads was senior Miranda Prochnow who had 26 assists, 19 digs, and 7 points and Dani Ryan who added 10 assists and 8 points. On the defense side, Abrianna Stevens added 8 points and 20 digs and sophomore Livvie Dufore had a great night with 4 kills, 4 point and 3 aces. The Glads are in 2nd place in the league with a record of 4-1.

Game Recap

The Fowlerville boys’ soccer team won another hard fought battle with Portland on Tuesday night, 2-1. Ethan Moore opened the scoring off an assist from Elias Kaijasilta to give the Glads a 1-0 lead at half. The Raiders tied the game at 1 in the second half, before Hunter Maddox’s shot came off the crossbar and was headed in by Kaijasilta for the game winner. The Glad defense stood strong again, led by Alex Bowers 5 saves. Fowlerville stands at 6-9 on the season, 3-1 in league, as they travel to Eaton Rapids on Thursday.
